Best way to learn MATLAB? - mathworks matlab 7.0.4 r14 sp2plp

I want the schools at the University of New Hampshire, transfer to Syracuse University next fall. In MATLAB UNH is not required, however, if I go to Syracuse, my adviser told me that I need to catch up with MATLAB.

I buy the 7.4 version with pupils MathWorks Simulink 6.6. What is the best way to learn MATLAB in the course of the summer? I know some tutorials from The MathWorks is decent, but not sure there are some good books to help you to learn MATLAB, or other means to help me with him this summer.
